Thanks everyone for sending up good thoughts & prayers for Mason's CF appointment on Monday! It went well! He weighed in at 14 lbs. 5 oz. and 25 inches long. However, his weight puts him under the 50th percentile mark where they'd like him to be, so he is now classified in the "yellow" zone. We will just keep an eye on that and hopefully he'll start gaining some more weight. I understand the point of this benchmark, CF kids can be nutritionally deficient and thus on the smaller side of the scale. However, Mason is steadily growing, is healthy, and happy, so for Matt & I that is all that matters. :)
We did have a melt down at the doctor though! Not sure where it came from, other than maybe he remembered getting shots the week before and was scared that was going to happen again. As soon as we stripped him down to his diaper and his nurse began the normal routine, he lost it! Crying and screaming with REAL TEARS! Ugh - broke my heart! Felt bad for our nurse though because he had NEVER acted this way before, so she kind of felt responsible. But later towards the end of the visit when she had to do a throat swab, he didn't freak out on her! When the doctors began streaming in looking, listening to him, and talking to us, he was perfectly happy! Laughing, jumping, kicking, smiling, and talking away!
Met the new GI doctor...and...we...LOOOVEE him! Our nurse compares him to Doogie Howser b/c he is pretty young looking! I will refer to him as Dr. R since his last name is something ridiculous! He was super nice, but no sugar coating. He cut straight through all the crap and told us what we needed to know. This is how all doctors should be. It's our kid, we have every right to know what is going on and what is to come. He (and apparently every other doctor in the clinic) looked over Mason's X-Ray and he didn't see anything unusual. I think maybe there had been confusion b/c he is so young it is a little different and maybe they were just expecting to find something?? Not sure, but good news is it's all ok!
Angie, my oldest sister, came to the visit with us! She wanted to listen and learn too. She picked a great day to come since we got to see all his regular doctors. Plus I had a lot of good questions this time so we all learned much more. This last visit reassured me, as I'm sure it did for Matt, that this group of CF specialists is a good fit for us.We had been having doubts.
Well this weekend is one of my best friends, Tristen's bridal shower! She is the last of our tight group of girls to get married...bittersweet! I get the pleasure of driving to Liberty Hill with Mason ALONE! AHHH! Fingers crossed everything goes well. All our long trips have included Matt, so if Mason were to get fussy I just crawled in the back to keep him company. Not sure how this is going to work out?!?! Looking forward to the visit though. Haven't seen my friends in a while. Also, I'll be staying with Amy, Seth, and the girls who I hadn't seen in several weeks either! All my other family will be out of town (Jenn on a teacher retreat, Daddy, Angie, Kevin, & boys in Tennessee visiting Skip and Wanda) so it'll be quality time with Deans ... and hopefully time to swim in their pool. I have yet to swim all summer!
Oh, where will Matt be you ask?? Playing baseball FD vs PD...I see how it is!!! and working, but that doesn't count ;)
Have a great weekend! And Happy 12th Birthday to Garrett!!
Love ya'll-
Jess
